Meta's official Ads connector plugs your ad account straight into ChatGPT or Claude. Connect it once, then audit your campaigns, find what's wasting money, write new ads and build whole campaigns just by asking. It works across Facebook, Instagram and Audience Network, and nothing changes in your account until you say OK.
Your Ad Account, Inside the Chat
The plan · 4 steps
- 1Copy Meta's official link.
- 2Add it to Claude (Customize, then Connectors) or the ChatGPT desktop app (Settings, then MCP servers).
- 3Sign in with Facebook and pick your ad account.
- 4Run the full audit, then fix one thing at a time.
Before you start
Your Meta account
An ad account with active or paused campaigns, and admin access to it.
Your app
Claude on any plan (Free can add one custom connector), or the ChatGPT desktop app. A paid ChatGPT plan is best, since Free and Go get only a little Work and Codex time.
Your time
About 5 minutes for setup.
Your first goal: A full audit of your account and one fix you approve.
Meta built this connector itself (it's called Meta Ads AI Connectors and it's in open beta). You don't need a developer app, app review or API tokens. Meta handles the sign-in.
What it can do
- Analyze performance. Pull trends, spot anomalies and compare your ads against industry benchmarks.
- Manage campaigns. Create campaigns, ad sets and ads, pause or activate them, and change budgets and targeting.
- Handle creative. Upload images and videos, create ad creatives and link them to campaigns.
- Run catalogs. Create and manage product catalogs and product sets, which is huge for e-commerce.
- Check your tracking. Build custom audiences, check dataset quality and signal health, and tell you if your Pixel is firing properly.
- Tests and history. A/B tests, conversion lift studies and activity logs of what changed.
Heads up: Meta is turning this on account by account. If you follow every step and it still can't see your ad account, yours may not have access yet. Try again in a few days.
The Link and the Audit
This is Meta's official Ads connector. Copy it exactly.
https://mcp.facebook.com/ads
Maverick's tip
Use this official link, not a third-party one. Plenty of independent "Meta Ads MCP" servers have similar names, and with those you're handing your ad account to a server nobody vetted.
Add it with Step 1 and sign in with Step 2. Then start a new chat and paste this. It reads your whole account before you change anything.
Use Meta Ads. Analyze all of my active campaigns. For each one, show me: 1. Campaign name and objective 2. Total spend (last 30 days) 3. Results and cost per result 4. CTR (click-through rate) 5. CPM (cost per 1000 impressions) 6. ROAS (if applicable) 7. Frequency Then give me your honest assessment: - Which campaigns are performing well? - Which ones are wasting money? - What are the 3 biggest issues you see across the account? Don't make changes yet.
In ChatGPT: type @Meta Ads at the start (or pick it from the @ list). In Claude: "Use Meta Ads" is enough. Run this audit first every time. Without the full picture, the suggestions come out generic.
Add Meta Ads to Claude or ChatGPT
In Claude
- Open Claude on the web or the desktop app.
- Click Customize in the left sidebar, then Connectors.
- Click +, then Add custom connector.
- Name it Meta Ads, paste the link and click Add.
Once it's added, it carries over to Claude on your phone. Custom connectors work on every plan, but Free is limited to one. On Team and Enterprise, an owner has to add it for the organization first. More in my complete guide to Claude connectors.
In ChatGPT
Use the ChatGPT desktop app. First check Plugins in the left sidebar and search for Meta Ads. If you see an official listing from Meta, install it and skip to Step 2. If not:
- Open Settings, then MCP servers, then Add server.
- Name it Meta Ads and choose Streamable HTTP.
- Paste the link, save it, then select Restart.
A server you add this way runs through your computer, so use it in a Codex chat or a local Work task in the desktop app. Cloud tasks won't see it. If your screen looks different, search Settings for "MCP".
Sign In and Pick Your Ad Account
In Claude: the first time Claude uses Meta Ads in a chat, it asks you to log in with your Meta account. In ChatGPT: select Authenticate next to the server.
Log in with the Facebook account that has access to your ad account. If Meta asks which businesses to share, pick only the one you're working on. Then choose your access level:
- Allow All lets it read your data and create or edit campaigns.
- Read Only is analytics only. A good place to start if you're nervous.
Test it
Use Meta Ads. Show me all campaigns in my ad account. For each one, show the name, status, daily budget, and total spend this month.
Real campaign data back? You're connected. If it errors, check that you picked the right ad account and the link is exactly right.
Maverick's tip
If Claude answers without using the connector, just type "Use Meta Ads" in the chat.
Find What's Broken
Most ad accounts have the same handful of problems: audiences that are too broad, creative that's worn out, budgets spread too thin or ad sets fighting each other. After the audit, these find the specific ones in yours. Start each with @Meta Ads in ChatGPT.
One campaign, in depth
Use Meta Ads. Look at [CAMPAIGN NAME] and give me a full breakdown: - How is each ad set performing? - Which audiences are converting and which are burning money? - Which ad creative has the best cost per result? - Is the frequency too high? (above 3 is usually a problem) - What would you change if you were managing this campaign? Don't make changes yet.
This week vs last week
Use Meta Ads. Compare my ad performance from last week vs this week. Show me: spend, results, CPA, CTR, and CPM for both periods. What changed? Did performance get better or worse, and what likely caused the shift? Flag anything unusual.
Worn-out creative
Use Meta Ads. Look at all my active ads across every campaign. For each ad, show: - The headline and primary text - CTR and cost per result - Frequency (how often people see the same ad) - Days running Flag any ads where: - Frequency is above 3.0 - CTR has dropped below 1% - CPA has increased by 20%+ compared to its first week These are likely fatigued and need new creative or fresh audiences.
Audience problems
Use Meta Ads. For all active ad sets, show me: - Target audience description - Audience size - Cost per result - Quality, engagement and conversion rankings (if available) Flag any ad sets where: - Audience size is under 100K (too narrow, limited reach) - Audience size is over 50M (too broad, wasting impressions) - Two ad sets have overlapping audiences (competing with yourself in the auction)
Wasted budget
Use Meta Ads. Show me how my total daily budget is distributed across campaigns. Are any campaigns getting budget but producing zero or very few results? Are my best-performing campaigns budget-constrained? Give me a recommended budget reallocation: where should I take money from, and where should I put it instead? Don't make changes yet.
What's working, and why
Use Meta Ads. Show me my top 5 performing ads this month by ROAS and explain why they are working.
Use Meta Ads. Check the quality of my dataset and tell me if there are any signal loss issues.
Use Meta Ads. Find trends in my ads this week that I would have never found myself.
Heads up: Don't blindly follow every recommendation. The AI reads your numbers, but it doesn't know your brand strategy, your seasons or why you're running certain campaigns. Use it to diagnose, then decide yourself.
Let It Fix Things, With Your OK
This is where it gets real. It can go into your account and change budgets, pause ad sets, update targeting and edit creative. Write actions are live, with no draft mode, so set some ground rules first.
- Always review before you confirm. It describes the plan before doing it. Read the plan.
- Analysis first, changes second. Run the audit prompts before you ask for fixes.
- Never raise a budget more than 20% at once. Big jumps can reset Meta's learning phase and your ads get worse for a while.
- Don't let it pause your only ad set. That kills the whole campaign. Ask for alternatives.
- Test on a low-spend campaign first. Try it on a $10/day campaign before it touches your main ones.
Ask for fixes with guardrails
Use Meta Ads. Based on your analysis, please fix the issues you found. But before making any changes: 1. List every change you plan to make, one by one 2. Explain why each change should help performance 3. Flag any change that involves increasing spend 4. Wait for my approval before executing anything
Fix one specific problem
Use Meta Ads. The ad set [AD SET NAME] has a frequency of [FREQUENCY] and the CPA has [WHAT CHANGED, E.G. DOUBLED IN THE LAST WEEK]. Options I want you to evaluate: 1. Expand the audience 2. Swap in new creative 3. Pause this ad set and create a new one with fresh targeting Which option do you recommend and why? Don't make changes yet.
Maverick's tip
The magic phrase is "Don't make changes yet." Put it in any prompt where you want the plan without anything touching your campaigns. Happy with it? Say "Go ahead and make those changes."
Heads up: Meta limits how often you can change an ad set's budget and your account spending limit, and going over can trigger Meta's automated enforcement. Double-check every budget change before you confirm it.
Write Ads and Build Campaigns
Give it your product, your audience and your goal, and it writes the copy and sets up the whole campaign structure for you to approve.
Ad copy in five angles
Use Meta Ads. Write 5 versions of ad copy for my [PRODUCT OR SERVICE]. For each version, give me: - Primary text (2-3 sentences) - Headline (under 40 characters) - Description (under 30 characters) Use these angles: 1. Pain point / problem-solution 2. Social proof / testimonial 3. Urgency / limited time 4. Curiosity / pattern interrupt 5. Direct benefit / outcome Keep the tone [CASUAL, PROFESSIONAL OR BOLD]. My audience is [DESCRIBE YOUR AUDIENCE].
Paste in two or three of your best past ads and a line about your tone, or the copy comes out generic.
A full campaign from scratch
Use Meta Ads. Create a new conversion campaign for my product: [DESCRIBE YOUR PRODUCT] Details: - Goal: [PURCHASES, LEADS OR SIGNUPS] - Daily budget: [DAILY BUDGET] - Target audience: [DESCRIBE YOUR IDEAL CUSTOMER] - Location: [COUNTRY OR REGION] - Age range: [AGE RANGE, E.G. 25-45] Set up: - 2 ad sets with different targeting approaches - 3 ad variations per ad set with different hooks Show me the full plan before creating anything.
The power combo: Meta Ads + Higgsfield
The Meta connector uploads and manages creative but doesn't make images. Connect Higgsfield too (it's a plugin in ChatGPT and a connector in Claude) and one chat goes from a product photo to a ready campaign.
Here is my product [UPLOAD PHOTO]. Use Higgsfield to create 10 high-converting static ad images. Then take those images and build a conversion campaign in my Meta Ads account targeting [YOUR AUDIENCE] with a daily budget of [DAILY BUDGET]. Optimize for purchases. Show me the full plan and wait for my OK before you create anything.
Maverick's tip
A new ad set goes through Meta's learning phase while it figures out who to show your ad to, usually around 50 conversions. Performance jumps around during it. Let it run 3 to 5 days before you judge or change anything.
What It Can't Do
- It won't make your video creative. It writes copy, manages settings and uploads what you give it. For images, pair it with Higgsfield. For making the ads themselves, see How to Make Perfect Ads Using Claude.
- Meta only. No TikTok or Google Ads data, and no organic Facebook posts. Paid ads only.
- It works with what you give it. If your Pixel isn't firing or your conversion tracking is broken, it analyzes bad data and gives you bad advice. Run the signal check prompt first.
- It may not see everything. Some custom conversions and complex attribution setups don't fully come through while the connector is in beta.
- It's not real-time. Data can lag a little, so don't decide anything off the last hour.
- It uses a lot of memory. Meta's tools take up a big chunk of the chat's working space, so start a fresh chat for big analysis jobs.
- Rate limits. Meta caps how many requests you can make in a short window (bigger accounts get more). If you hit it, wait a bit and try again.
The AI handles the spreadsheet work. You handle the strategy: your product, your offer and what makes people buy it.
Bonus Prompts: Keep It Running
Setting up is step one. The real value is checking in regularly, scaling what works and cutting what doesn't. A good rhythm: the daily check (30 seconds), the weekly report, and the full audit once a month.
Daily check-in
Use Meta Ads. Give me a brief status update: - Total spend yesterday - Total results yesterday - Average CPA yesterday - Any ad sets with CPA more than 2x my target of [TARGET CPA] - Any ads with frequency above 3 Anything I should worry about?
Weekly report
Use Meta Ads. Give me a full report for the past 7 days across all campaigns. Include: - Total spend vs total revenue - Overall ROAS - Top 3 performing ads (by CPA) - Bottom 3 performing ads - Audience breakdown: which demographics converted most - Recommendations for next week
Scale winners
Use Meta Ads. Which ad sets have been profitable for at least 7 days with a CPA under [TARGET CPA]? For those ad sets: - Increase daily budget by 20% - Duplicate them into a new campaign with broader targeting to test scale Show me the plan before executing.
Cut losers
Use Meta Ads. Which ad sets have been running for 5+ days and have a CPA above [YOUR MAX ACCEPTABLE CPA]? Pause those ad sets. But first, check if any individual ads within those ad sets are performing well. If so, move the good ads to a better-performing ad set instead of pausing everything. Show me the plan before executing.
Lookalike audiences
Use Meta Ads. Look at my existing campaigns. Which audiences have the lowest cost per result? Create lookalike audiences based on the top-performing custom audiences. Use 1%, 3%, and 5% lookalike sizes so I can test which performs best. Set up a new ad set for each lookalike with a [DAILY BUDGET] per day budget. Don't launch yet, just show me the plan.
A proper A/B test
Use Meta Ads. I want to test two different hooks for my [PRODUCT] ads. Hook A: [DESCRIBE FIRST ANGLE] Hook B: [DESCRIBE SECOND ANGLE] Set up a split test with: - Equal budget on each variation - Same audience for both - Run for 7 days minimum - Track cost per [RESULT TYPE] Create the test but don't launch. Show me the setup first.
Retargeting funnel
Use Meta Ads. Set up retargeting campaigns for: Layer 1: People who visited my website in the last 30 days but didn't purchase (warm audience) Layer 2: People who added to cart but didn't purchase (hot audience) Layer 3: Past customers who haven't purchased in 60+ days (win-back) Each layer should have different messaging. Layer 1 = educate, Layer 2 = urgency, Layer 3 = win-back offer. Create the campaign structure and write ad copy for each layer. Show me the plan before creating anything.
Retargeting needs the Meta Pixel on your website. No Pixel yet? Ask it to walk you through installing one first.
Spy on competitors
Search the Meta Ad Library for ads from [COMPETITOR NAME OR URL]. Show me: - How many active ads they have - What types of creative they use (video, image, carousel) - Common themes in their copy - How long their ads have been running (longer = working) Based on what's working for them, what angles should I test?
If it can't reach the Ad Library, open facebook.com/ads/library yourself and paste in what you find. For deeper research, see Use Claude to Analyze Your Competitors.
Common Mistakes and Quick Fixes
| If this happens | Try this |
|---|---|
| It can't see your ad account | Meta is rolling this out account by account, so yours may not have it yet. Also check you picked the right business when you signed in. |
| Claude answers without the connector | Type "Use Meta Ads" in the chat. |
| No "Add custom connector" in Claude | On Free you get one custom connector, so remove another first. On Team or Enterprise, an owner has to add it. |
| ChatGPT doesn't see Meta Ads | Use it in a Codex chat or a local Work task in the desktop app. Check the link is exact, then Restart. |
| You said "fix everything" | Run the audit, then ask for one specific fix at a time. |
| It wants to raise budgets a lot | Never more than 20% at once. Set a max daily budget and stick to it. |
| You changed five things and can't tell what worked | One change at a time. Wait 3 to 5 days. Measure. |
| Results swing wildly on a new ad set | That's the learning phase. Wait for about 50 conversions or 7 days before you touch it. |
| The copy sounds generic | Paste your best past ads and describe your tone in the prompt. |
| The recommendations seem off | Check your tracking first with the signal check prompt. Bad data in, bad advice out. |
| The chat gets slow or forgetful | Start a fresh chat for big analysis jobs. |
| It hit a rate limit | Wait a bit and try again. |
| You haven't opened Ads Manager in weeks | Check it at least weekly. You'll spot visual patterns the summaries miss. |
